FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
May my child try a class before we commit to lessons?
Of course! We encourage parents to sign up for a free trial class on this page. We offer as many trials as you need to find the right class for you!
What if we register and change our minds?
Not a problem. We encourage you to try a different class or dance experience. You may unenroll through the Parent Portal Only by the 15th of the month to be removed from the following month. Any production dues, costumes, fundraising credits, etc are forfeited.
May I watch my child while they are in class?
The studios have large viewing windows that faculty will have open whenver possible and it is not a distraction to the quality of the class. We have a huge lobby and waiting area with vending and coffee/tea available while you wait.
Are performances required?
We offer both performing and non-performing classes. This information is viewable in the class description when you enroll.
Does my child have to wear the dress code?
Yes, after the introductory period of the dancer getting started, proper dance attire is required. We strive to create a disciplined environment where our students thrive.
If you have financial strains and need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us CS@DanceItForward.org.
Why Isn't my tuition pro-rated?
We calculate the total number of classes offered in the Dance It Forward year and divide into equal monthly payments. This way, you always know what to expect.
How do I keep informed?

How do I get more information if I am confused?
Call or text 717-755-MOVE (6683) or email us at CS@DanceItForward.org.
Do you compete?
- We believe a dancer’s happiest and most meaningful moments come from the joy of performance, growth, and artistic expression, rather than rankings or awards.
- Our focus is on developing confident, well-trained dancers, not competing for trophies or scores.
- Competition participation often brings significant added financial costs for families, including entry fees, travel, costumes, and extras that do not directly enhance dance education.
- We prioritize experiences that place student well-being, confidence, and personal progress first.
- Competitive environments can sometimes introduce pressures that shift the focus away from learning, creativity, and healthy youth development.
- We strive to provide age-appropriate choreography, music, costuming, and performance opportunities that align with our school's values.
- Scoring systems and judging standards can vary widely, which may not always reflect a dancer’s true growth or effort. Often the judges are pressued to crituque and comment on often hundreds of dancers in little time.
- Instead of competition, we invest in high-quality training, performance opportunities, workshops, community outreach, and artistic experiences that uplift every dancer.
- At Dance It Forward, we believe dance education should build self-esteem, teamwork, leadership, and lifelong love of the arts.
- We remain committed to creating an environment where every student feels successful, valued, and inspired — not compared.

Testimonials
"Taking dance and participating in the company saved me emotionally, many, many times and is why I direct and choreograph musicals at my school. I want to provide my students with the joy and fulfillment that I felt from every practice and performance / was able to have. Dancing has always made me feel alive!!!"
CAROLYN MOTTERN, Former Student
"I took dance class for many years with Shana, and I loved every minute of it! This is why I love music and dance even now, years later."
LISA AMSPACHER, Former Student
"This organization has taught me the values of life through the discipline and passion of dance. My dance teachers Shana, Lori & Mindy not only taught Ballet and Jazz technique but life skills, and helped me grow as a performer, choreographer and dance educator. Studying here empowers you to dance beyond the physical body, to dance from the heart, and educates you how to move efficiently to achieve the technique. Dance is a gift, and this group shared that gift with me. I am thankful beyond words to give back, as a dance teacher under their wings. Inspired by the professional teachers that taught me, I dedicated my life to pursuing a dance career. When you study here, you discover you are the architect of your dreams. Together, we can start building your dreams one plie at a time."
AK MULLEN, Former Student & Faculty
"This organization impressed us with their level of professionalism within their operations, as well as their performances. We were welcomed immediately and everyone involved made the transition into dance a very smooth process. We thank the Greater York Center for Dance Education for assisting our daughter in developing her passion for dance."
